Safety Management Systems
A Safety Management System (SMS) is an integrated set of work practices, beliefs and procedures for monitoring and improving the safety and health of all aspects of your operation. It recognises the potential for errors and establishes robust defences to ensure that errors do not result in incidents or accidents.
The proposed Civil Aviation Safety Regulations (CASR) will require all AOC holders to have a Safety Management System operating within their organisation.
Why wait until the last minute?
There are good reasons for having an SMS program in place before the legislation is enacted. Increasingly, tenders issued by Government Departments and Major Companies are stipulating requirements for bidders to have proactive processes in place to manage safety related issues within their organisations. Furthermore, insurance agents often offer incentives to organisations with safety management systems in place.
Security Management Systems
The Department of Transport and Regional Services introduced the Aviation Transport Security Act 2004, and its associated Regulations, that now requires classified airport operators, airline/aircraft operators, cargo agents and operators of airside facilities (such as hangars) to have a Security Program that includes training, audits and regular reviews.
AVSTAR can help you create your Security program, including the completion of a Security Risk Assessment of your operations and facilities, assist with regular audits and prepare review discussion papers. AVSTAR can also arrange to provide an "Introduction to Aviation Security" training program for your staff and contractors.
